Ladder Levelers - Is this safe?

The simple answer is: No, this is not something I would recommend.

Purchase a product that is specifically designed for that purpose or purchase a ladder that is designed for that.  Why do I say that?

Consider an OSHA standard on this topic:

“Ladders shall be used only on stable and level surfaces unless secured to prevent accidental displacement.” (1926.1053(b)(6))

This is obviously what is attempting to be done (thank you for your effort!). However, is this ladder “secured”? Could the 4x4 roll with some movement causing the ladder to become displaced?

To think about:

“43 percent of all fatal falls in the last decade have involved ladders

That said, there are some other options to consider….

  1. Does the work even need to be done? Or is there a lift onsite that we can use instead?

  2. Can we relocate the ladder to a different area where the ground is level?

  3. Can we use manufacturer approved levelers such as Werners’ Levellok Leveler?

With some consideration and planning, we can handle these construction specific scenarios with confidence and safety.
